You must have seen or come across the hashtag #IStandWithOmoye on social media after a twitter user @Girlish_Lava_ did a heart breaking and emotional thread about her secondary school mate that suffered a great deal from her husband. See thread here.
This thread was shortly followed by videos condemning domestic violence from celebrities like Brymo, Gloria Young, Kiki Omeilli, Adeniyi Johnson, Arese and a few others.
Apparently, the hashtag #IStandWithOmoye and the story around it was a build up to a new movie titled “Omoye”.
The movie “Omoye” is a riveting tale of a hardworking and relentless young lady who unfortunately finds herself in a toxic relationship with a man that never takes responsibility for anything. With abuse and violence increasing, she becomes emotionally and mentally drained but still won’t give up on her marriage. The movie which was shot in Ajegunle area of Lagos, Nigeria is written and directed by Uche Chukwu, produced by AMVCA 2017 winner, Rotimi Salami and is sponsored by Recare, makers of Natures Gentle Touch.
The Movie features popular Nigerian actors including Kiki Omeilli, Tina Mba, Gloria Young, Rotimi Salami, Greg Ojefua, Stan Nze, Olarotimi Fakunle, Omobola Akinde, and, Mariana Dike.
Kiki Omeilli
Nkiruka ‘Kiki’ Omeilli, Born in Lagos, a graduate of Medicine from the University of Lagos. She began her acting career in 2011 with the Television “Beyond the Smile” Kiki Omeilli is best known for her role in Lovette in TV series “Lekki Wives”. She’s also known for her first feature film in 2012 “Married but Living Single” where she played the antagonistic Titi Haastrup alongside other Nigerian film actors Funke Akindele, Joseph Benjamin and Joke Silva. In 2011, Kiki began co-hosting a health show on Smooth FM Lagos, in the same year, she also hosted the Dance Reality TV show produced by Koga for DSTV tagged. She also starred in “Oblivious” nominated for best short film at AFRIFF 2014 (Africa International Film Festival) and won the award for “best short film” at the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA). In 2014, Kiki was listed by the NetNG as one of the 25 young actors set to take over Nollywood and by mode men magazine as one of Nollywood’s next 10. She was listed by the Sun Newspapers as the top 10 Nollywood actresses to watch out for. Kiki played the role of Omoye in the movie and we’re looking forward to seeing how acts out that character.
Tina Mba
Tina Mba is a Nigerian actress that hails from Enugu state, southeast Nigeria. Born in a family of seven (four girls and three boys), she has been in the movie industry for over two decades. Her first job was in 1989, a production of a stage play “As you like it” by Shakespeare. She has featured in movies such as “Beneath her veil”, “Make a Move”, “Silence” and “Meet the In-laws”, Tina Mba is known for “Half of a Yellow Sun” (2013), Isoken (2017).
Rotimi Salami
Rotimi Salami, born and bred in Lagos; a graduate of Sociology from Lagos State University. Rotimi is a versatile actor, model and a film maker. Popularly known for his role in the award nominated television comedy drama; “Kuti’s Career Palace”.
Rotimi has featured in several reputable television series in which he plays different characters. He has also featured in a couple of movies including the multiple award winning “Just Not Married” which earned him several local and international Recognitions, award nominations and bagged him two awards as most promising actor (BON Awards 2016) and best supporting actor (AMVCA 2017).
