Fixing communication in marriage

The foundation of a marriage that will stand the test of time is one rooted in the foundation of good communication. Many marriages on the brink of failure have repaired when effective communication became the norm.
Communication is delicate and very important. It can be frustrating when we expect our partners to pick up on all our cues and know exactly what is in our head. I mean, who can? And unfortunately, there are no handbooks to follow.
Before you say that you are fine, ensure that you mean it. Sometimes, we feel that saying “I’m fine” in a not-so-convincing way will make our husbands suffer a teeny bit but it actually does more harm than good. So, please, when your husband takes time to ask you if you are okay, give him a heartfelt answer.
Y’all know the killer of communication in marriage – the silent treatment! We are quick to use it a lot as a weapon in our arsenal. The pause in communication by one party slows the progress of your marriage. Words are powerful. Instead of resorting to silent treatment, use words to your advantage and lovingly let him know the problem.
Master the art of really listening. Take the viewpoint of your partner into consideration and understand the angle they are coming from. Make your marriage a “we” affair instead of a “me” affair. The goal is not to win an argument but to reach a middle ground where both parties are happy.
Couples should learn the art of truly communicating in love rather than building a marriage based on mind reading and endless guessing game. When your partner knows your needs, they can happily work to fulfill them.
